Most of our lives we spend seeing the world around us without really observing it. Whether we are overwhelmed by modern ADVERTISEMENTS or we don’t take the time to look we miss a lot of the world around us. I like to take the patterns and images from modern life and use them to create the narratives in my paintings. In my work, I want to take the images that I see and create new value and new context.
I use patterns and borrowed images to express my ideas and feelings about myself and the world around me. I have always been drawn to collage and assemblage and my most recent paintings are all done by hand but still mix and match pieces from many different sources. I draw my inspiration from cartoons, comic books and contemporary art history.
I like to think of my work as pop surrealism that pulls from my everyday life. I am always trying to recontextualize and challenge our understanding of the mundane. I am an artist and a certified art educator from New Jersey. I have shown my artwork both locally and internationally.
